Alf was EXTREMELY popular here in Germany as well. The (pretty bad) made for TV movie even got a big nation wide release in cinemas and the original show is still constantly having reruns along with the two (again pretty bad) cartoon spin off's which are also immensely popular. I was actually very surprised how comparatively little impact Alf had outside of Germany.
Interesting. Pop culture just goes all over the world, I love it. I had a partner company distributing our H games in Germany but he had to stop because he had won the license for Sailor Moon and couldn't be caught dealing hentai on the side.
Yes, Sailor Moon is extremely huge here as well. For a long time I actually had the biggest German Visual Novel website. In the end I didn't take very good care of it and ended up selling it for a few hundred bucks )-: But again, it was because I wasn't able to shake the more seedy image that people increasingly started to associate with those games.
Fun! It was great bringing visual novels out to the West, and they were great for a long time. These days every game seems to eventually come out in English, so a tiny bit of the "specialness" of the genre is lessened. (I founded JAST USA as well ase J-List.)
